GEORGE TOWN: A social media influencer denied stealing her ex-boyfriend’s mobile phone in April at the magistrates’ court here today.
Sarah Leo, 33, pleaded not guilty to theft before magistrate Nadratun Naim Saidi.
She was accused of stealing an Oppo Reno8 5G phone worth RM2,000 from Andrew Yeap, 37, at the Gleneagles Hospital car park here on April 26.
The charge was framed under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor S Preeya Darrsini asked for bail to be set at RM7,000.
In mitigation, Leo’s lawyer Cheah Eng Soon said the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between Leo and her ex-boyfriend.
Nadratun set bail at RM3,000 with one surety. She also set July 24 for the next mention of the case.
