Zambry pointed out that MCA president Wee Ka Siong and secretary-general Chong Sin Woon had dismissed the claim as baseless, Bernama reported.

“MCA has said that this is merely a rumour created by certain parties,” he told reporters after officiating the Cheras Umno divisional meeting today.

Zambry, who is also the higher education minister, said the BN Supreme Council continues to hold regular meetings and that there is no issue of any component wanting to quit the coalition.

He maintained that all four BN component parties – Umno, MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah – remain united, even when discussing “political matters”.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini quoted an unnamed MCA leader as saying the party’s leadership was under pressure from its grassroots to leave BN.

He said the grassroots were unhappy that MCA had been sidelined in the government, but the party’s central committee had yet to decide on the matter.

Meanwhile, Zambry said it will take time and solid cooperation for BN to forge strong ties with Pakatan Harapan.

He nonetheless believes the top leaders in the unity government are “genuinely working well together”, and that they are working on ensuring this is reflected at the divisional level.
