
Teo said her ministry has not set a timeframe for MCMC to conduct engagement sessions, adding that the matter cannot be taken lightly.
“I believe there are many more experts who would like to share their experiences with us. I welcome them. That’s why we will not set a time frame, because we do not want to rush into a decision.
“We want MCMC to conduct proper, comprehensive engagement. If they need one month, let’s do it. If they need three months, let’s do it.
“I think it is very important for the nation and tech community to understand (MCMC’s) intentions. I think this is something we should not take too lightly,” she was reported as saying in a Bernama report.
She was asked about the directive by communications minister Fahmi Fadzil yesterday for MCMC to halt its implementation of DNS redirection.
She said MCMC’s intentions included addressing the challenges faced by Malaysians in online gambling, pornography and online crime, which she said are becoming more serious.
“MCMC’s intentions are good. However, I believe there is no point for us to implement a policy without proper consultation,” she said.
Asked about the police investigation into Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s statement on halal certification, Teo said MCMC is working closely with the police.
