Man who abused boy in viral video nabbed in last week’s raid, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain says the suspect confessed to the act.

Razarudin Husain said police are investigating if the victim was among the children rescued from the welfare homes last Wednesday.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A man, who had allegedly assaulted a boy at  a welfare home purportedly managed by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH), was among those arrested in a raid last week, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said.

“It so happened that among those we arrested was a man who abused the boy,” Razarudin said, referring to the 171 people held during the raids in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan on Wednesday.

“He confessed to abusing the victim,” he told reporters at the police training centre here today.

Last night, Razarudin said police were investigating the matter after a video went viral.

In the 70-second recording, the boy could be seen crying in pain while the man recording the video repeatedly asked him in a harsh tone why he was acting as such.

Razarudin also said police would check if the boy was among the children rescued during the raids.

Police had raided 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan which authorities had linked to GISBH last Wednesday.

They said 402 children were rescued and investigations showed that at least 13 of them were allegedly sodomised or taught to sexually assault others.

Among those arrested were an ustaz and a hostel warden.

Razarudin said the majority of the parents of the rescued children have been identified, but they have yet to claim them.

“It could be because (some of) their marriages were not registered,” he said.
