20 cars partly submerged in Putrajaya flash flood

The floodwaters receded at 5.30pm after firefighters cleared blocked drains.

Heavy rain for about an hour since 4pm caused flash floods at Precinct 11 Zone 4A here today, leaving around 20 vehicles partly submerged in floodwaters.

Several roads were also rendered impassable for light vehicles due to the flood.

Putrajaya fire and rescue department director Abdul Manaf Che Isa said 13 firefighters were dispatched to the area following an emergency call at 4.44pm.

He said the firefighters managed to clear blocked drains and divert the floodwaters.

“Flooding receded at 5.30pm,” he told Bernama, adding that the area was still being monitored by personnel and CCTVs.

Family of 5 rescued in Nilai

A family of five were rescued by residents in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, after they were trapped in their car near Jalan Taman Semarak 2. They comprised two men, two women, and a disabled girl.

Another family, comprising two adults, an elderly person and a disabled child, were rescued from their home after it was submerged in floodwaters, Harian Metro reported.

Nilai assemblyman J Arul Kumar said the areas surrounding Nilai were flooded with water reaching a height of about 50cm.
