PETALING JAYA:
A man pleaded not guilty in the Kota Bharu sessions court today to three charges of abusing his baby daughter by hitting and kicking her last year.

Noor Hakimie Nadzir Hamdan Akhir, 25, made the plea after the charges were read to him before judge Zulkifli Abllah.

He is accused of abusing his daughter, who was one year and eight months old at the time, by hitting and kicking her in the head, legs and waist.

The offences were alleged to have been committed at a house in Telok Mesira, Bachok, Kelantan between 12.54pm and 2.11pm on March 30 and June 13, 2024.

Hakimie was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, punishable under Section 31(1) of the same Act, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000, up to 20 years’ imprisonment, or both, if convicted.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli, while Hakimie was represented by Zulfaqar Al Basysyar and Taufikrullah Rusli.

Kamarul did not propose bail as the alleged offences were serious and involved a father and his daughter. The court refused bail and set Feb 24 for remention of the case and handover of documents.
