JPJ takes action on 14 express buses without 2nd driver

BUKIT MERTAJAM:
Summonses were issued against 14 express and tour buses last night for not having a second driver for long journeys. The road transport department (JPJ) took action in a special operation on public service vehicles at the Juru toll plaza.

Penang JPJ said in a statement the bus operators were penalised for not having a second driver for journeys exceeding 300km or requiring more than four continuous hours of driving.

“Other offences included the failure to update logbooks and technical violations,” the statement said.

There were also 228 summonses issued for various offences involving motorcyclists at the Penang Bridge toll plaza. Among the offences were driving without a licence, expired vehicle licences, lack of insurance coverage, non-compliant number plates, failure to display a probationary (P) sticker, missing side mirrors, and illegal motorcycle modifications.
