PETALING JAYA:
A 31-year-old woman was slapped with a RM2,000 fine, or two months’ jail in default, for assaulting another woman in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Flevia Bettar pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt before magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali, Daily Express reported.

Flevia was charged with committing the offence against Siti Norafatin Samlee, 34, at 1.10am on Jan 14 at a clubhouse in Tanjung Aru.

The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to a year in prison, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution told the court that Siti was at the clubhouse with three friends and had spoken to a customer at the next table after noticing her playing a game.

As Siti was leaving the clubhouse, the customer threw a glass at her, which she blocked. At the same time, Flevia, a friend of the customer, hit Siti with a high heel, causing injuries to her nose and head.

Lawyer Rizwandean Bukhary Borhan appealed to the court to let his client off with a fine, saying this was her first offence and that she was remorseful for her actions.

Deputy public prosecutor Haikal Hazwan Yatin however asked the court to impose “an appropriate sentence”.
