‘Count me in’: Chow confirms taking part in CEC elections

The Penang chief minister says he has been a DAP central executive committee member since 2001.

Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow did not contest the state chapter’s elections last September.
PETALING JAYA:
Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow has confirmed that he will be contesting in next month’s DAP central executive committee elections.

“I confirm that I will be contesting in the CEC elections,” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying after an event in Penang today.

“I have been a CEC member since 2001, so I am still contesting. I have been nominated and have not withdrawn, unlike in the state party elections.”

Chow, currently a DAP vice-chairman, did not take part in the state party elections last September.

The CEC elections are scheduled for March 16 in conjunction with the 18th DAP national congress.

As of today, four party leaders have withdrawn from the elections – national adviser Tan Kok Wai, national treasurer Fong Kui Lun, and party veterans Phee Boon Poh and M Kula Segaran.

They cited the need to make way for the next generation of leaders as the reason for their withdrawal.
