Sabah BN treasurer Salleh Said Keruak reaffirmed the state BN’s commitment to political stability and governance for the benefit of Sabahans.
“This position has been publicly stated by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin.
“At the same time, we acknowledge the importance of engaging with local parties to ensure a strong and cohesive coalition in the state,” he told FMT.
Last November, Zahid, the BN chairman, said that his coalition will form a core alliance with PH for the Sabah state election. The alliance will also be open to other coalitions and parties, he said.
Sabah BN and PH leaders subsequently held an informal meeting in Kota Kinabalu and issued a joint statement, agreeing to foster the spirit of unity in line with the existing understanding between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Zahid.
BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah both previously said they would work with PH at the next state polls, which must be held by December this year.
Salleh also said any political alliance must prioritise the best interests of the people over personal or political preferences.
“This is why we should emphasise ‘Suka Sama Rakyat’—our alliances must reflect the needs and aspirations of Sabahans, rather than simply being about ‘Suka Sama Suka’ or political convenience,” he said, adding that people want a stable and effective government.
The Usukan assemblyman said discussions are ongoing to ensure that BN-PH and local partners work together for economic growth, infrastructure development and better opportunities in Sabah.
“Sabah BN will engage with like-minded partners who share our vision for a stronger and more developed Sabah,” he said.
