The eight accused have been remanded pending the disposal of their case at the High Court.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Eight people, including two Indonesian women, were jointly charged at the magistrates’ court here with trafficking heroin at an apartment.

Six Malaysians – M Puvanesvaaran, R Kalairasu, M Mughilan, K Surrendran, S Satish Kumar, and Loke Jun Mun – along with two Indonesians, Ananda and Devi Ekaputri Karokaro, were charged with trafficking an estimated 357.8g of the drug.

The alleged offence took place at an apartment unit at Jalan Chan Sow Lin on March 15.

The charge was framed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, they will face the death penalty, or a 30 to 40-year jail term and 12 strokes of the rotan.

No pleas were recorded after the charge was read, as the case falls within the High Court’s jurisdiction.

All eight accused have been remanded pending the disposal of the case.

Magistrate llli Marisqa Khalizan set June 16 for case management.

Deputy public prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri handled the prosecution and lawyer Yong Jei Beng appeared for the accused.
