PETALING JAYA:
A man suspected of having mental health issues has been detained for allegedly writing the word “Allah” and “Bismillahirrahmanirrahim” at a temple in Pantai Siring, Jasin.

Jasin police chief Lee Robert said the 39-year-old suspect was arrested at about 2pm yesterday.

“However, the man has been released on police bail. The investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” he said, as reported by Bernama.

Serkam assemblyman Zaidi Attan said the temple, which was built on government reserve land, was demolished today.

He said the demolition took place after all religious materials were removed.

“This was decided following discussions between the landowner’s representatives, the building owner, and the relevant agencies held yesterday,” he said.

Zaidi said the demolition was witnessed by representatives from the Jasin district office, the police, the public works department and other agencies.

The shrine was located in a mangrove forest near a beach and fenced-up private land.

It is believed to have been built two to three years ago, although the Islamic inscriptions were only discovered by a fisherman on Wednesday.
