FMT op-ed writer Mohamed Nasser dies

The 62-year-old 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize nominee died at about 3.45am today.

Mohamed Nasser Mohamed, the only Malaysian shortlisted for the 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize, died early this morning. He was 62.

Nasser was a contributor of feature articles for FMT Bahasa Melayu.

His passing was confirmed in a Facebook post by his wife, Rusina Othman.

Rusina said her father died at about 3.45am.

His remains will be taken to Masjid Raja Muda Musa in Semenyih for funeral prayers and burial before the zohor prayers.

Nasser was shortlisted for the 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize, a global competition that received 7,806 entries from 54 countries.

Only 25 writers from 14 countries made the shortlist.

The winner of the award is expected to be announced at the end of next month.
