The Human Rights Campaign Foundation revealed in a new study that the lives and livelihoods of the LGBTQ+ community are particularly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Forty percent of all LGBTQ+ people in the United States work in the five industries most affected by the ongoing health crisis, including the restaurant and food services, hospital, education and retail industries.
Aside from facing greater risk of health complications as a result of Covid-19, the research also notes that “LGBTQ Americans are more likely than the general population to live in poverty and lack access to adequate medical care, paid medical leave, and basic necessities during the pandemic.
