“I’m not surprised because I had already exposed PKR and Malaysiakini (received funds) in 2004. Only Bersih and Merdeka Centre are the new recipients (of the funds), after 2010,” said Lokman, who was sacked from PKR following his disclosure of the party’s sourcing of funds from foreigners.
Speaking to Bernama when contacted yesterday, Lokman claimed there were meetings between several PKR leaders and Soros in Washington DC in late 2003, including PKR President Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Mohamed Azmin Ali, Khalid Jaafar (Anwar’s former press secretary) and Elizabeth Wong (Selangor State executive councillor) to raise funds for the 2004 General Election.
“At that time, I was a member of the PKR Supreme Council and was never informed about the plans of the party’s president to meet with Soros, and neither were we informed after the president came back,” he said.
Lokman, who is a member of the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) think tank claimed that Azmin had confirmed in the PKR Election Bureau meeting that an initial RM3 million had been received and was being used to order flags, T-shirts and caps from China.
“When I asked Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor (former political secretary of Anwar Ibrahim) at the time, he informed me that the funds had come from Soros.
“So PKR being financed by Soros is not a new thing…. (it has been so) since 2004 to my knowledge. What I don’t know is whether it could be earlier than that, I’m not sure,” he explained.
Lokman also revealed that majority of the cadre and training courses organised by PKR was managed by the Institute for Policy Studies which received funding from a Christian foundation in Germany.
“In addition, we know Bersih has confirmed receiving funds from NDI (National Democratic Institute). NDI receives money from the NED (National Endowment for Democracy). Soros is behind NED,” he said.
According to media reports yesterday, a foreign group led by billionaire George Soros was revealed to have funded several local organisations as part of its programme to affect the outcome of the next general election.
Elaborating further, Lokman hoped the latest exposure by DC Leaks would allow for an investigation to be made against the parties involved, as taking foreign funds to bring down the government was very dangerous.
