Rape of Indonesian: Civil servant among 2 held in Miri

Victim claims she was gang-raped by 3 men posing as policemen at a house before being abandoned by the roadside.

Two local men, one of whom is a civil servant, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the gang-rape of a 30-year-old Indonesian woman on Monday.

Miri police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat said the first suspect was arrested yesterday at 7.30pm at Piasau Industrial Estate, while the civil servant was detained at 12.05 am today in Jalan Raja.

Khoo said the first suspect, who is unemployed, also had a previous criminal record.

“We are hunting for the third suspect who is still at large,” he said.

The victim lodged the police report on Monday, claiming that she was gang-raped by the suspects at a house in Piasau Utara, before being left by the roadside later that day.

She claimed that the suspects had posed as policemen when they approached her.
