Melaka police chief Abdul Jalil Hassan said the items, worth more than RM10,000, were seized from a 40-year-old trader believed to have been carrying out the business for the past two months.
“The trader from Negeri Sembilan was selling fake firearms believed to be purchased online from China,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.
Initial investigations found that the man allegedly did not know it was illegal to sell the items.
“The excuse is unacceptable as it is an offence under Section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960, which carries a jail sentence of no more than a year, a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both, upon conviction,” Jalil added.
He said among the fake firearms seized were two Graffiti-branded pistols, an M4A1 submachine gun rifle, a Std Water Gun Electric and a HK416 automatic rifle.
