Lim said Mohamad, or more popularly known as Mat Sabu, had done the right thing by openly handing it to the authorities to conduct an investigation into his son’s case.
‘’I am really sympathetic towards him because, although it is difficult being a minister, it is sometimes more difficult to be a father.
‘’But it is an apt move to hand it over fully to the authorities to act based on the process of the existing law, seeing no one in this country is above the law and the Constitution,’’ he told reporters here today.
Lim, who is also the Bagan MP, hoped that all quarters could give space to Mat Sabu’s family and let the law take its course.
He said he understood what Mat Sabu was going through because his son had also been accused of molesting a classmate.
‘’I understand the situation because I am also a father and my family is often targeted. So, I hope they will be stout-hearted in facing the ordeal,’’ he said.
Lim said he did not know if the detention was right or wrong, but he only wanted to lend Mat Sabu support.
It was reported yesterday that a minister’s son was among two men detained in a police sting at an entertainment centre on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur at about 3 am.
The 31-year-old man was arrested with his friend, aged 33, after they were allegedly found to have tested positive for ganja.
Both have been released on police bail.
Mat Sabu later confirmed in a statement that his son, Ahmad Saiful Islam, was the one arrested and said he is leaving the matter to the authorities.
