Girl, 10, waiting for ride to school killed, 2 hurt after car crashes into them

Police say the driver, who was believed to be drunk, has been arrested in Kota Belud

The Nissan Sentra car involved in the accident came to a halt after crashing into a house by the roadside in Kota Belud.
KOTA KINABALU:
A girl was killed and two others seriously injured when a car allegedly driven by a drunk person crashed into them today at Kota Belud, about 70km from here.

Max Christy, 10, died on the spot due to serious head injuries in the incident which took place at 6.45am.

Maxyrona Masdi, 7, and Michelle Marianne David, 14, were taken to Kota Belud Hospital.

Kota Belud police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the children were waiting for their vehicle to go to school at the time of the accident.

He said the 54-year-old driver of the Nissan Sentra car was driving home.

“It is believed the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the girls waiting by the roadside,” he said.

The car only stopped after crashing into a house nearby. The driver sustained light injuries.

“The driver is believed to have been driving while being intoxicated. He was detained after receiving outpatient treatment for his injuries,” he said.
