Speaking at Barisan Nasional’s first ceramah at Pekan Nenas here for the Tanjung Piai by-election, Wee said that Pakatan Harapan, by urging voters to elect their candidate for the purposes of development had implied that PH will not deliver their plans if they cannot secure this victory.
“I was told that PH had a statement today saying that casting their candidate (Karmanie Sardini) will ensure all government’s planned projects for Tanjung Piai will go on. If they said only a PH representative can deliver the promise, I would like to say as opposition, our MCA’s Wee Jeck Seng can also push for any projects to be delivered,” he said.
PH leaders in a joint statement tonight urged Tanjung Piai voters to elect PPBM’s Karmanie Sardini to ensure the coalition can retain the parliamentary seat after the death of former MP Md Farik Md Rafik.
The leaders added that a PH victory is important to ensure the development in Tanjung Piai can be continued.
Wee, who is Ayer Hitam MP, said an opposition MP like him and even Jeck Seng, if elected, play the role of check and balance on PH so the coalition can deliver what they promised before they came into power.
“The government now placed their priorities on wrong issues such as black shoes policy for schoolchildren, developing a flying car, and even introducing ‘khat’ (calligraphy) in the education syllabus,” he said.
At the same ceramah, BN candidate Wee Jeck Seng said that life had been”tough” for him after he lost the seat at the May 9 general election last year.
“I had to find a job in Kuala Lumpur but I still come back here every month to attend some functions. Though no longer the MP, I still get calls from people telling me their problems. I try my best to help them,” he said.
Jeck Seng was Tanjung Piai MP from 2008 to 2018.
He is contesting for the parliamentary seat again, against Karmaine, Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam, Berjasa’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, as well as independent candidates Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar and Ang Chuan Lock.
Tanjung Piai voters will cast their votes on Nov 16.
