PH presidential council to discuss MB’s ‘lone battle’ video

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says 'rift' among Perak govt leaders might be 'silver lining' for Barisan Nasional.

PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman speaks at the Youth Economic Forum in Kuala Lumpur today.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council will discuss Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s “lone battle with DAP” statement, PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said.

Syed Saddiq said the key issue was the rhetoric that DAP was anti-Islam and anti-Malay, which he strongly refuted.

He said he agreed with DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang that PH’s focus should be on the upcoming Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election.

“In the end, we’re moving like a family. They’re not anti-Islam and anti-Malay, because PH is a coalition that’s working as hard as they can for all Malaysians regardless of race or religion,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the Youth Economic Forum here today.

In Pontian, Johor, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi blamed DAP for the video where Faizal is heard saying he is battling a “lone battle”.

Zahid said this was because DAP did not support Faizal’s leadership.

“We know that they (DAP) have a candidate for menteri besar. I see it as their internal problem,” he said when asked to respond on the video, which went viral on social media yesterday.

Faizal has since claimed that what he had said had been taken out of context.

“I’ve been saying that I’ve gone through a lot in Perak and there are DAP leaders who run me down. What is important is that we all work closely together,” he said.

He said that certain “irresponsible parties” had only recorded a small portion of his remarks and that this gave an inaccurate picture of what he actually said.

Zahid said the “rift” among Perak PH leaders might be a silver lining for Barisan Nasional.

“We (BN) have two seats fewer than them in Perak. Maybe, we do not need to wait until GE15,” he said, without elaborating.

BN currently has 27 assemblymen in Perak while PH has 29. Three other assemblymen are from PAS.

Earlier this year, an audio recording criticising Faizal had also gone viral.

The man in the recording claimed that Faizal was always late for meetings, had a tendency to skip functions involving Sultan Nazrin Shah and that decisions were not made at the state executive council.

Some believed that it was the voice of Aziz Bari, the state executive councillor in charge of education, science, technology and environment, in the recording.

However, the former law lecturer dismissed the claim and said he had no intention of toppling Faizal.

Meanwhile, PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin described as “wishful thinking” Zahid’s statement that BN may not have to wait until the next general election to recapture Perak.

“I cannot deny that there are minor problems among the component PH party members in Perak, but they are working to develop the state,” he said at a press conference.
