RoS summons 3 associations over Hatyai Peace Accord event

The registrar also says the remaining six associations linked to the event are not registered.

The Hatyai Peace Accord allowed members of the Communist Party of Malaya to return home on condition they did not revive their struggle here.
PETALING JAYA:
The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has summoned three registered associations said to be involved in organising the 30th anniversary of the Hatyai Peace Accord earlier this month, which was attended by a DAP assemblyman.

In a statement, RoS said it had identified three of the nine associations linked to the event held in Kajang on Dec 1.

“RoS has issued a notice for the committee members of the associations to give their statements over their involvement in the event,” it said.

It said the remaining six outfits were unregistered and warned that members could be imprisoned for breaking the law.

On Wednesday, police said they had identified the nine associations and four individuals who spoke at the event, including Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu.

Three others are from Persatuan Persahabatan Abad ke-21, the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) and Persatuan Kawan Karib Sarawak.

Under the Hatyai Peace Accord between the government and CPM, members of the party were allowed to return home, on condition they did not revive their struggle here.

The accord came under the limelight in the wake of the controversy surrounding the return of former communist leader Chin Peng’s ashes to Malaysia.
