In a statement, the minister said she was grieved by the boy’s death, who was believed to have been abused, adding that strict action must be taken to warn other parents against neglecting or abusing their kids.
Rina said Putrajaya remained committed to protecting children and would not compromise with any offences that involved their rights and welfare, while calling on the public to be the government’s eyes and ears.
“The ministry is also conducting a holistic study on the nation’s child protection policy, with an emphasis on ensuring children are free from negative things through advocacy, prevention and support services.

“People are also urged to report any such incidents to Talian Kasih at 15999 or its WhatsApp line at 019-2615999, which operates 24 hours daily. They can also file reports at the nearest district welfare office or police station.”
The boy, believed to be abused, died in Taman Krubong Jaya, Melaka, on Friday. His 32-year-old mother and stepfather, 38, have been detained for a week for questioning.
The child allegedly drowned in a water tub in his house in the 4pm incident, but preliminary investigations found physical injuries on the victim’s body.
He had previously been under the care of foster parents after his birth, but his biological mother had resumed custody of him late last year.
Earlier, Bernama quoted police as saying that the mother was not a mental patient.
Melaka CID head Mohd Sukri Kaman said the woman only received normal psychiatric treatment at the Melaka Hospital and was not confirmed as a mental patient as claimed.
“The police did not obtain any report on the suspect having mental problems or that she had been issued with a card for mental patients.
“She had never been treated at any mental hospital.”
