Deputy inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the five men and three women were actors, artist agents, cameramen and the directors of the video and have been remanded for further investigation.
In a statement, he said all eight of them had admitted to getting paid to produce the video, which was filmed in Ampang and Hulu Langat on March 13.
They were detained under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
Acryl Sani added that police were trying to track down the main person behind the video.
“Police will not compromise with any person involved with any form of gambling activity in the country,” he said.
Yesterday, he said the contents of the video, which had spread on social media, were found to be in clear violation of the law and could cause a public nuisance.
