PETALING JAYA:
Local telecommunications service providers will be offering free calls for Hari Raya, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced in a statement today.

Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said all customers of telco companies Digi, Celcom, Maxis, REDtone, TM Unifi, TIME dotCom, Tune Talk, U Mobile, Yoodo and YTL will be able to enjoy free calls from 10pm today to 10am tomorrow.

He hoped that the free service would allow those away from their families to foster family and friendship ties as inter-district and interstate travel are currently banned under the reinstated movement control order (MCO 3.0).

The special offer is set to benefit prepaid users the most, as most postpaid packages already offer free calls as part of their monthly packages.

This is the second year Muslims will be celebrating Hari Raya under movement restrictions since the MCO was reinstated today, in light of increasing Covid-19 cases nationwide.
