It was reported that the welfare department (JKM) had on July 12 seized Rumah Bonda after the alleged abuse of a special child called Bella came to light.
The home’s founder, Siti Bainun Ahd Razali, is seeking to quash JKM’s seizure order and wants a court declaration that JKM’s decision to seize the home was irrational and against the principles of law.
In her supporting affidavit, filed to commence the judicial review, Siti Bainun said she set up Rumah Bonda in 2019 to serve as a shelter for unwed mothers, babies born out of wedlock and to take care of children going through court hearings.
“The cost of operating Rumah Bonda came from public donations. Those staying in the home, who are financially capable, also contribute to the upkeep of the home,” she said.
She said she had been attempting to register Rumah Bonda with JKM since 2019.
Siti Bainun said Bella was placed under her custody by the courts last year.
“Bella was said to be found at my condominium in a ‘heartbreaking’ situation. I wish to say that when the authorities found her, I had been admitted to hospital for Covid-19.
“After recovering from Covid-19, I was called to the KL police headquarters to have my statement recorded,” Siti Bainun said, adding that she had given her full cooperation to the police.
She reiterated that she had never abused Bella.
“Pictures of Bella’s ‘abuse’ were shared on social media by certain individuals. They were playing up false sentiments and launched attacks against me and Rumah Bonda without basis.
“After Bella’s story became viral, the public put pressure on the police and JKM to take action against me,” Siti Bainun said.
She claimed JKM, in coming to a decision to seize Rumah Bonda, took into account these abuse allegations surrounding the home.
“JKM has given incorrect information to the media.
“This seizure serves no justice to anyone, including Bella,” Siti Bainun said.
