PETALING JAYA:
Umno’s 2021 general assembly, scheduled to take place next month, has been postponed due to the massive floods in several states.

The announcement was made by the party’s secretary-general Ahmad Maslan today.

“The party’s president, deputy president, management committee and Supreme Council have agreed to postpone the general assembly due to the floods that have hit many places.

“Grassroots Umno leaders meanwhile have been instructed to assist the flood victims.”

He said several Umno divisions in areas like Kota Raja and Klang could not hold their division meetings due to the floods.

Umno’s general assembly usually involves nearly 6,000 grassroots leaders from the division, women, Pemuda and Puteri wings from all 191 divisions and thousands of observers from all over the country.

The new date for the general assembly, which is supposed to take place from Jan 12-15, will be announced soon, according to Ahmad.

“Umno sympathises with the flood victims and hopes that the party’s machinery, Barisan Nasional, the federal government and the state governments will continue helping them,” he said.
