
He said losses to property amounted to between RM1.2 billion and RM1.4 billion, followed by damage to vehicles, estimated at RM1 billion to RM1.3 billion.
Mustapa said the manufacturing sector suffered losses of between RM800 million and RM1 billion, and the agriculture sector between RM40.9 million and RM 49.9 million.
Meanwhile, losses to public assets and infrastructure amounted to RM2 billion, and those suffered by business premises were estimated at RM500 million to RM600 million.
The floods that hit several states in the peninsula at the end of December claimed a number of lives and caused destruction and damage to property. Thousands of victims were evacuated to temporary relief centres.
According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), clean-up work in six states have reached an overall 98.17% of completion under the first phase. Only two states – Negeri Sembilan and Melaka – have achieved 100% as of yesterday.
Launching the Household Income, Expenditure and Basic Amenities Survey 2022, Mustapa said the first household income survey was conducted in 1973 to measure the income and poverty levels of the people in Peninsular Malaysia. The survey was extended to Sabah and Sarawak in 1980.
“The survey is conducted concurrently with the Household Expenditure survey beginning in 2014/2015 and is held twice every five years. This year is the 20th survey and it is conducted from January to December,” he said.
