JPJ director-general Zailani Hashim said a total of 67,265 vehicles were inspected over the past six days.
Summonses were issued for driving without a valid driving licence, expired road tax, not wearing seat belts, beating traffic lights, overloading and using a mobile phone while driving.
Zailani said more than 2,200 personnel from JPJ, the police, the National Anti-Drug Agency, the immigration department and PLUS Sdn Bhd, were involved since the integrated operation began on Jan 25.
The operation involved activities such as road patrols, bus inspections at terminals and depots and personnel disguising as bus passengers, he told reporters after the operation last night.
Zailani said the operation, focused on bus inspections, aimed at reducing the number of unroadworthy vehicles and to ensure that bus drivers were drug-free.
In last night’s operation, he said, four bus drivers tested positive for drugs.
He advised road users to comply with traffic rules and regulations, and take appropriate self-control measures to prevent road accidents and deaths.
“Based on the trend during previous festivals, no less than 200 accidents involving public and private vehicles are reported daily,” he added.
