Cops foil 2 syndicates, seize drugs worth RM25 million

Bukit Aman narcotics chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay says five men were arrested in two operations carried out in Selangor and Kedah.

A total of 696kg of drugs, comprising methamphetamine, heroin, and ecstasy pills, were seized by police in two separate raids.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have foiled two syndicates that were planning to supply drugs worth RM25.3 million to the local and Indonesian markets.

According to Bukit Aman narcotics crime investigation department (NCID) director Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, the drugs – comprising methamphetamine, heroin, and ecstasy pills – would have reached over 3.4 million addicts.

In the first operation on June 2, police picked up a man in Selangor who is believed to have been actively smuggling and supplying drugs across the border.

“In the operation, police seized methamphetamine weighing 404.3kg, heroin (7.7kg), and ecstasy pills (35.3kg),” Ayob Khan said in a media conference at the federal police headquarters today.

In a separate operation early this morning, police picked up four individuals, aged between 25 and 39, following raids at two residential premises in Selangor and Kedah.

They also confiscated methamphetamine weighing 248.7kg worth RM8.95 million. Several vehicles used by the syndicates were also seized.

Ayob Khan said the syndicates were believed to have smuggled in the drugs from the “golden triangle” which refers to Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos.
