Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Noh Omar said the party expected a tough challenge to secure victory because of the large number of voters in the state. However, he was confident that Umno could win more seats compared to the 2018 general election.
“I don’t need to announce (how many seats are to be won), but it will be more than in GE14,” he told reporters after the Tanjong Karang Umno delegates’ meeting here today.
Noh also expressed his disappointment over PAS’ decision to ditch the Muafakat Nasional alliance with Umno and cooperate with Perikatan Nasional instead.
“Imagine, if we (Umno and PAS) could work together, I’m sure we will become stronger. We always wanted the unification of the ummah, but what happened has forced us to go solo,” he said.
On Thursday, the PAS central working committee decided to strengthen cooperation with PN in facing the general election on the principle of unifying the ummah.
The decision is seen as violating the conditions set by Umno that PAS had to sever ties with Bersatu if it wanted to continue its political cooperation in Muafakat Nasional.
