PN initially said it would contest under the PAS logo in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu as part of its election strategy.
In response, Kedah Gerakan chief M Marimuthu Selvan was reported to have said that the party would sit out the parliamentary polls in the state as using the PAS logo might not go down well with non-Muslims.
He added that the decision was made by the party’s central leadership.
The Gerakan leader said there was no need now to go back on what was stated earlier.
“I think it would not be nice to make a U-turn after coming at them strongly (on the logo issue),” the leader said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The leader said while Kedah Gerakan had earlier been allocated the Alor Setar and Sungai Petani seats – which are urban mixed seats with sizable non-Malay populations – the party has no qualms allowing PAS or Bersatu to take over.
“We will still help them in campaigning. Our relationship remains strong,” he added.
Yesterday, Kedah PN chairman Sanusi Md Nor said PAS will contest eight seats in Kedah while Bersatu will take on the remaining seven.
He also announced that the coalition had agreed to use the PN logo instead of the PAS logo as reported earlier.
“Now in Kedah, our logo is the same, PN. Let’s not allow the enemy to divide us because of our previous differences regarding the use of logos,” the Kedah menteri besar added.
FMT has contacted Kedah Gerakan chief Marimuthu for comment.
