PETALING JAYA:
Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat has been elected as chairman of the Council of Asean Chief Justices (CACJ) until 2024.

The chief registrar’s office of the Federal Court said the appointment comes following the council’s tenth meeting held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

“Tengku Maimun was unanimously elected by the council as the CACJ chair. She will helm the CACJ chairmanship for a two-year term,” it said in a statement.

Muhammad Syarifuddin, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia, was chairman of the council in the previous term.

The Malaysian judiciary has been entrusted to helm two important working groups.

The first is the CACJ working group on facilitating service of civil processes within Asean, led by former chief judge of Malaya Azahar Mohamed.

The second is the CACJ working group on case management and court technology, chaired by Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak.
