PETALING JAYA:
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan is confident that Barisan Nasional will be open to working with Perikatan Nasional to form the next federal government if there is a hung Parliament after the elections.

According to Berita Harian, Takiyuddin said he was confident that PN would be able to form the government, whether on its own or with other parties, including BN. However, working with Pakatan Harapan was not an option.

“PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had said, if we can’t work together (with BN) before the general election, maybe we can establish that relationship after the elections.

“Our first reference is BN. Though no discussions have been held throughout this period of campaigning, I’m confident BN will accept (forming the government with PN).

“There were discussions before this, but while we’re unable to work together now, we did say that maybe we could work together after GE15,” he said.

A survey by Merdeka Center had said it would be difficult to predict the outcome of the polls, and that it was possible that no one coalition would be able to form the government after polling day.

The public opinion research centre said there was a “rising possibility” that three or more parties or coalitions would be needed to form a government with a simple majority.
