King asked PH, PN to cooperate, but we said no, says Muhyiddin

Muhyiddin Yassin says PN will not budge from its stand on the matter.

We will not work with Pakatan Harapan, says Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.
PETALING JAYA:
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong had asked Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) to work together in forming the government, but PN turned this down, says the coalition’s chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.

At a press conference, Muhyiddin said PN was firm about this stand.

“We have discussed this beforehand. We will not work with PH.”

The Bersatu president also insisted that he had the support of 115 MPs to become the prime minister, along with statutory declarations from the elected representatives.

Muhyiddin said these documents were submitted to Istana Negara yesterday, adding that he had a letter of receipt from the King’s senior private secretary.

“I want to prove that when we submitted this… we had more than 112 MPs (supporting PN). That’s why we were confident that we could form the government.

“But when I met (the King today), he said this was not enough. I don’t know what was the reason for this, but the proof is there.

Following his meeting with Muhyiddin and PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim earlier, the King had granted an audience to all 30 Barisan Nasional MPs, which would take place tomorrow morning.

Istana Negara had earlier confirmed that no MP had commanded the majority support to be appointed the prime minister.
