PETALING JAYA:
Angry with a group of Mat Rempits causing a ruckus, a man took matters into his own hands to drive them away in Kemaman, Terengganu, on the first day of Hari Raya.

On Saturday, the group of Mat Rempits donning traditional Malay garb sped away with their motorcycles after seeing the man brandishing two sticks.

According to Kosmo, Kemaman police chief Hanyan Ramlan said a preliminary investigation showed that the incident happened at the traffic light intersection Km157 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan, near Geliga.

“An investigation paper was opened after a 26-second video clip on social media went viral yesterday evening. We are also tracking all parties involved for further investigation,” he said.

He advised the public not to take the law into their own hands to avoid anything untoward from happening.

Hanyan said the case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and inconsiderate driving, and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
