PETALING JAYA:
Federal police have summoned Abdul Hadi Awang over a speech the PAS president made while campaigning in Johor.

In a Bernama report, Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said Hadi is being investigated under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for allegedly questioning the authority of the Pardons Board during a ceramah on Saturday.

The report said that during the ceramah at PAS’s headquarters in Bakri, Muar, Hadi claimed the country’s process of pardoning a criminal is not in line with Islamic teachings.

In a Facebook post, Hadi’s political secretary, Syahir Sulaiman, said the Marang MP was prepared to cooperate fully with Bukit Aman, which had contacted his camp this morning.

“In fact, prior to this, Tuan Guru (Hadi) had given his statement to Bukit Aman and handed over the handphone belonging to his press secretary, who manages his official Facebook account, to the authorities to help with the probe,” he said.

Syahir said police wanted to take Hadi’s statement after a police report was lodged against him over a speech he made while on the campaign trail for the Simpang Jeram by-election.

“In this matter, Tuan Guru is confident that the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will carry out their probe professionally,” he said.

In July, Hadi was also investigated over remarks that allegedly touch on the 3R (race, religion and royalty) issue.

The probe, carried out by the criminal investigation department’s (CID) classified investigation unit, centred around remarks allegedly made by Hadi that DAP was continuing the plan started by the British colonisers to destroy Malay and Bumiputera supremacy with the support of Malays who had forgotten their roots.

In March, Hadi was investigated by the same unit over his claim that Perikatan Nasional was attempting to topple the government.
