PETALING JAYA:
A fake social media account was used to post an edited image of a pig in royal attire, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said.

Fahmi said an individual questioned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission denied uploading the post, which is believed to target the Sultan of Selangor.

“MCMC is currently working with Meta and the police to carry out a forensic analysis to confirm other issues,” Fahmi, the government’s spokesman, said after the weekly Cabinet meeting today.

He said the investigation was focussed on determining the account’s authenticity and whether an “agent provocateur” created it to upload sensitive content.

He said any action taken would be decided once the investigation was over and the culprit was identified.

On Monday, police confirmed that they were investigating the matter and had identified the owner or administrator of the “Huayan The Pureland Learning Centre” Facebook page.

The edited image follows a dispute over pig farming in Selangor.

In February, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he did not consent to pig farming in any district in the state, citing pollution, river contamination, and social concerns.

The issue resurfaced recently after Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki called for Selangor to consider modern closed-system pig farming, drawing criticism from opposition assemblymen who said it contradicted the sultan’s decree.
