PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said several important decisions, including matters related to the opposition’s structure in Parliament, would be reached during the meeting, Utusan Malaysia reported.
He also did not rule out the possibility that opposition MPs’ seats in the Dewan Rakyat could be reorganised.
“We previously informed the Speaker (Johari Abdul) that the opposition leader’s post had been vacated.
“For now, however, we have yet to name a replacement because the Dewan Rakyat sitting only begins next month.
“God willing, we will name one before the sitting.”
Previously, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had differing views regarding the opposition leader’s post.
Hadi was reported as saying that the appointment of a new opposition leader would be decided before the Parliamentary sitting in June after discussions involving all component parties.
Muhyiddin, however, was of the view that there was no need to wait until then, stressing that any delays in announcing a new opposition leader would not reflect well on PN.
Referring to Hamzah Zainudin, who is currently without a party after being expelled from Bersatu, Muhyiddin also said it was inappropriate for someone no longer qualified to continue lingering in the position of opposition leader.
In April, PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said Hamzah was no longer the opposition leader, and that he had instructed PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan to send an official letter informing Johari of the vacancy.
However, Johari said at that time he had yet to be informed of Hamzah’s resignation and, as such, Hamzah technically remained the opposition leader.
Hamzah was sacked from Bersatu in February at the height of a leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin.
Later that month, Samsuri was appointed PN chairman to replace Muhyiddin, who resigned from the post. It was also agreed that PAS would take over the opposition leader’s post.
