Apart from nasi lemak, Malaysians love a good kopitiam breakfast menu. The kopitiam, or coffeeshop in the Hokkien dialect, was introduced by Hainanese migrants who were mostly involved in hospitality back in the day, and is still a popular choice for dine-ins and takeaways.

Here are five must-try kopitiam in Selangor for the authentic taste of local coffee and kaya toast.

1. Chong Kok Kopitiam @ Klang

Chong Kok used to be a hotel but is now a classic kopitiam that is very popular among locals. The shop has been operating since 1940 and has been enjoyed by Malaysians of every age and background over the decades.

Uniquely, the store prepares its half-boiled eggs using a special machine that uses slow heat to make them tastier and creamier compared with the classic boiling method. You have to visit to find out more!

2. Auntie Kopitiam @ Kuala Selangor

Auntie Kopitiam opened its doors in 1935, and is a favourite among local celebrities who frequent this shop for its delicious traditional Hainanese coffee.

The owner of Thong Kee, which has outlets in Sea Park, Glenmarie and Puchong, created its renowned “1+1 Cham Peng”, a combination of Hainan coffee and tea that is well-loved among the locals.

The shop also serves a variety of breakfast foods including toast, half-boiled eggs, and pastries such as croissants and doughnuts.
