City police chief M Chandra said a passerby had stumbled upon the baby’s remains, which were under a piece of plywood propped up by a stick, at about 9am.

Paramedics were unable to confirm how long the baby, estimated to be nine months old, had been dead. However, Chandra said the baby’s body was already bloated at the time of discovery.
He said the body had been sent for a post-mortem, while efforts were underway to find those responsible.

This is not the first time such a case has occurred in Kayu Madang, as the landfill has been used as a baby dumping site several times in the past due to its size and remote location.
