SUBANG JAYA:
Devotees at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ are holding special prayers for those injured in the two-day violence at the temple.

Temple priest Jeya Kumar started the healing prayers for fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, 24, who is with the Fire and Rescue Department’s Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS).

The prayers are also being held for two men in their 30s who sustained injuries in the violent scuffles that started in the early hours of Monday.

The priest was also heard saying that the prayers were being offered to help those injured to heal quickly.

He also reminded everyone not to share fake news about the incidents at the temple and urged everyone to respect one another and all religions.

Temple priest Jeya Kumar urges all to stop fighting.

“Be calm. Don’t fight. We must live in peace,” he told devotees taking part in the prayers.

Earlier, devotees cleared the temple compound that was littered with water bottles and other garbage.

Most of the cars that were torched over the last two days were also towed away.

The Federal Reserve Unit force stood guard outside the temple. So far, only temple devotees are seen at the temple, lighting lamps and praying.

Earlier today, the fiancee of the injured fireman had called for the public to pray for his recovery and to stop speculating on his condition.

She said he is “still safe”.

Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy and Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran visited the temple and said they would bring concerns raised by those opposing a 2014 court judgment to relocate the temple to the attention of the prime minister.

They said the temple would not be demolished pending a decision.

In the wee hours of Monday, at least 18 vehicles were torched during a fight between two groups of people.

Early this morning, several cars parked by the roadside were also torched and a group also vandalised the MCT Tower building, where developer One City Development Sdn Bhd, has an office.

Police have arrested 21 Malaysian men in connection with the violence.
