Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that to date, the health ministry has reported 106 Covid-19 cases throughout the subdistrict. Of the number, 89 were local transmissions.
“The health ministry also confirmed that there were active clusters in industrial areas in this subdistrict,” he said in a statement this evening.
He said the CMCO, which will end on Jan 20, would allow health officials to carry out targeted screenings and restrict the movement of people in the area.
Ismail also said that the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the Westlite dormitory in Taman Perindustrian Tampoi Jaya, Johor Bahru, has been extended to Jan 22.
It was initially supposed to end on Jan 8.
To date, the health ministry has screened 1,303 individuals there, with 555 testing positive.
“However, the health ministry said the infectivity rate among the residents in the dormitory remains high.”
Ismail went on to say that as of yesterday, 194 people were arrested and issued a compound for flouting the movement restrictions.
This included offences such as failing to wear face masks and not observing social distancing among others.
Authorities also arrested 49 undocumented migrants and two smugglers, and impounded seven vehicles.
