The senior officer, who once led Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism division and is now making waves busting criminal activities after being transferred to Johor a year ago, showed off his culinary skills during a sahur event at the Johor state police headquarters today.
Ayob Khan, who was seen flipping the dough with ease in a one-minute video that has gone viral, kept journalists and his staff spellbound with his skills, making roti canai.
Incidentally, in an undated Instagram post, Ayob Khan posted a picture of him as a young boy in 1978 making roti canai in what appeared to be a family coffee shop in his hometown of Pendang, Kedah.
“ayobkhanmydin 1978 – Kedai Kopi Mydin, Tanah Merah, Pendang, Kedah. We cannot forget who we are or where we come from,” he had posted.
Ayob Khan when contacted said the picture posted on Instagram was taken in 1978 when he was 12 with his late father. “The family owned the small coffee shop then.”
The state police chief later told Utusan Malaysia that he hoped the sahur programme would strengthen the working relationship among the authorities, state government and media personnel.

“Members of the media have played a big role in reporting Johor police’s success in eradicating crime, helping us to boost our image in the public’s eye,” Ayob Khan said.
Besides him, others who attended the event were menteri besar Hasni Mohammad and state exco for education, information, culture and heritage Mazlan Bujang.
The sahur organiser also distributed food to those who are placed at the Covid-19 quarantine centre at Stadium Tertutup Pasir Gudang, as well as to staff members at the Johor Fire and Rescue Department and Hospital Sultanah Aminah.
