In a statement, Cuepacs president Adnan Mat said civil servants acted professionally in serving the nation, and are capable of performing their duties without being influenced by the political situation.
“As professional and neutral civil servants, we cannot be influenced by external elements that would affect the public service delivery system,” he said in the statement that seemed to indicate that they were prepared for any change of government.
His statement comes amid a push for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to resign particularly from Umno, with several MPs and members resigning from government positions in abiding by the party decision.
The fate of Muhyiddin’s government will be determined in a vote of confidence slated for September, with his majority support in question after at least 10 Umno MPs withdrew support for his administration.
So far, two ministers have resigned from the Cabinet after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the party was withdrawing support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government.
Adnan said the secretaries-general and department heads of the affected ministries and agencies would continue to focus their efforts on carrying out their responsibilities and serving the people well.
He hoped that political leaders would be able to put their grievances aside and find a point of understanding to ensure that the nation could recover.
“The whole nation and government are facing the Covid-19 pandemic and focus needs to be given toward efforts to curb the spread of the virus and recover the economy.”
