PAS leader slams Khairuddin for being ungrateful to Bersatu

PETALING JAYA:
PAS election director Sanusi Md Nor has hit out at former party colleague Khairuddin Aman Razali for describing Bersatu as a “small party” that depends on the strength of others.

He said the Kuala Nerus MP no longer had any relevance to comment on PAS’ political decisions, and that “only political animals will not remember what others have done for them”.

Sanusi, who is also the Kedah menteri besar, said Bersatu’s decision to quit Pakatan Harapan and form the government with PAS and Umno was something that needed to be appreciated.

He told FMT that Bersatu’s actions had “saved the country” from being governed by the “liberal” PH administration led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“PAS is not selfish. We remember the deeds and sacrifices of others,” he said.

Khairuddin said recently that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was wrong to work with the Muhyiddin Yassin-led Bersatu instead of Umno, adding that this had not benefited the Islamic party.

He also believed that if Hadi had defended PAS’ relationship with Umno, Bersatu would have acceded to it since it was a small party that depended on PAS.

In defending Bersatu, Sanusi said Muhyiddin’s party would have just stayed in the PH government if it truly prioritised politics.

However, he praised Bersatu for prioritising the interests of Malay-Muslims by ditching PH and forming the Perikatan Nasional government with Umno and PAS in March 2020.

In a final dig at Khairuddin, Sanusi said the former plantation industries and commodities minister was “more Umno than some people in Umno”.

Khairuddin was sacked as secretary of the PAS Syura Council on Feb 11 after being expelled from the party’s central committee a month earlier.

He resigned from PAS in March and remains an independent MP.
