Cops record statement from guard over drone incident at Merdeka parade

Police were forced to bring down the drone that was flown without approval.

Police said the drone was flown near a restaurant at the Dato Onn roundabout.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have recorded a statement from a security guard suspected of flying a drone without approval at the 65th National Day parade in Dataran Merdeka, here, today.

Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said police recorded a statement from the 50-year-old man at 1.54pm after a report was lodged.

“The Air Surveillance Police Force had to bring down a drone (force landed) to where it was flown near a restaurant at the Dato Onn roundabout in Kuala Lumpur at 9.30am.

“The statement from the suspect will be forwarded to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) for further action,” he told Bernama.

CAAM had already warned the public not to fly drones during the National Day parade to ensure public safety and prevent incidents involving Royal Malaysian Air Force aircraft flying in a low formation in the area.
