Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said these initiatives include providing opportunities for teachers to attend courses in artificial intelligence (AI), Bernama reported.
Speaking at the 2024 National Teachers’ Day celebration in Kuantan today, Fadhlina said the programme has been allocated RM1 million and targets 500 selected teachers nationwide.
She said 1,000 teachers who excel in adapting to digital technology will be selected to attend other courses to further their knowledge in the field.
She also announced that a well-being index for teachers will be developed.
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in launching the Teachers’ Day celebration, said the government aimed to provide each student with a device to facilitate digital learning.
He said despite financial constraints, the government would try to implement the initiative in phases from this year.
“A tablet for each student is the aspiration of the education ministry. I believe this new method of learning through devices is inevitable.
“We are requesting for this to be implemented immediately, but in phases.
“The system is already in place, with the pedagogical teaching methods already there. Only the tablets are the constraint.
“So if it can be done in phases starting this year, I think in the next four to five years, the majority of students will have them.”
