Malaysia up against mighty Japan in quarter-finals of Sudirman Cup

Malaysia face a daunting task to qualify to the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup having to get past Group A winners Japan in the quarters.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysia will be up against powerhouse Japan in the quarter-finals of the Sudirman 2019 Cup on Friday in Nanning, China.

The draw for the quarter-final playoffs was done immediately after the group stage was concluded yesterday.

Malaysia confirmed their spot after China gave India a 5-0 drubbing in their final tie in Group D yesterday.

On Tuesday Malaysia, who had lost by the same margin to China in their first tie, edged India 3-2.

Japan were the winners of Group A after defeating Thailand 4-1 in their final group tie. They had beaten Russia 3-2 on Monday.

China will be taking on Denmark, defending champions South Korean will be meeting Thailand while Indonesia will have to contend with Taiwan to make it to the last four.
